What do you midday, with no smokes..

No food, no h2o, no dough? I don't know what you do. I catch a ride a ride to Zilker. Start hiking the Greenbelt. 104°.  Wear jeans too. The river bone dry. The air on the rocks oppressive. Under the scrub canopy, lifeless. Shade welcomed, but offering no cold moisture.  Utterly alien. Try out the gps. Sure, strange mirage lady with the large assortment of dogs, that's why im perched midriver on this boulder. Sure. Why not.
Three hours later, amidst this heat and dry, crunching inner world, I emerged onto 360, like a bit of 28 year old jerky spat out on the highway.
I walked into some nondescript office building, damning blacktop every step, and stood at the water fountain for a 30 count, and bummed a smoke from a begrudging office worker.  ' no fires of any kind on the trail', but he didn't want to chat with me nor I with him so I would save the prideful excuses for someone who cared.
Gps'd a starbucks nearby, because they will serve anybody h2o and I kind of enjoy rattling their sensibilities on a day such as the one I was having. Bummed another smoke, caught the 338 on a courtesy ride (capmetro drivers are always cool about this from my experience ' sure no problem, hop on') but I don't abuse the offer ever.
Got back to the Ice Palace and crashed after oats and brown sugar,  awoke four hours later and went dt.
The End
